Dynamite's Diary - 9th December 2021

It's a week before the school play gets properly shown, and everyone's even crazier about it than ever. I haven't even had a chance to have a quick chat with Steve - he's so obsessed with getting his lines right that rehearsing in and out of school is all that he seems to be doing nowadays. Dad was real peeved about this and seems to think that this is a sign that he's a super shallow boyfriend, but he's just overreacting himself.

Marlene's had to help stitch a few of the costumes up, since they were falling apart a bit. I initially assumed that Kinsey was sabotaging things behind the scenes when Marlene mentioned that, but she reassured me that they were fine.

The scenery's been alright on the most part too. There was an onstage accident at one point where one of the actors tripped and fell into one of the trees I'd helped paint and got it all bashed up as a result, but that was fortunately last week and Gemma and I were able to get a new one sorted out.

That said, we're still on the lookout in case anything serious happens. We haven't told the teachers about our patrol, but that's just because we don't really have any proof that Kinsey's going to actively interfere. Gemma, Smartie and I are making sure that nobody damages or puts graffiti on the background stuff and props, Marlene's keeping a close eye on the costumes and Lottie's being all vigilante about the music in case something happens to the music.

I wouldn't necessarily be bothered about all of this otherwise, but my friends and I did have a part in making sure it was going well, so we might as well keep it up. Don't want all those efforts going to waste.

I don't know how I'm expected to do anything that night. Apparently we're expected to be there when the show happens, but I don't want to just sit there in the rafters and do nothing whilst other people act and sing. To be honest, I'm still not super invested in the story myself.

Well, it would be nice to see Steve act onstage. That would definitely be worth staying for. I really hope he doesn't screw up his part - he's been practicing so hard and it would be a shame for it all to go to waste.

I guess I'll stay for the night then. I'll certainly enjoy seeing Steve perform. That way I won't get bored. Then I'll join him, Gemma, Lottie, Smartie and Marlene in bowing for the audience at the end and gaining our applause for doing our part for the play, even if Steve was the only one acting.

Now let's just hope that Kinsey doesn't do anything to mess things up...
